GC Magazine

The Golden Chain magazine was launched in 1993 as a forum that would help us, SAICE alumni, keep in touch with each other as well as with our cherished alma mater. The journal has been appearing uninterruptedly since then. It now comes out four times a year — in February, May, August and November.

Over the years content in the magazine has encompassed many areas of interest to us: We are rooted in our common Ashram heritage, so the history and life of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, and of the Ashram itself, is a constantly recurring theme. The past and present of SAICE and its various sections feature regularly. Developments in Pondicherry, our home town, are also of interest to us. Interviews and articles by alumni about their life and work, about their memories of SAICE, always figure in the journal. Some of these themes sometimes become our cover stories or feature as regular columns in the magazine.

For those interested in such subjects The Golden Chain back issues are quite a rich source of information and insight. We make available here, year-wise in PDF format, the past issues of The Golden Chain for download.

We have also created an index of articles which have appeared in The Golden Chain over the years. It will allow you to search for an article according to its title, or its author(s), or its subject (keywords) or the column it appears under. Once you know which issue it appears in you can download it to read the article.

Your Participation

The Golden Chain is your magazine. It can thrive only if all of you alumni actively participate in it. So send us your articles. You could write about some interesting experience you have had, you could pen down memories of your student life at SAICE, you could just share some thoughts with your fellow-alumni. There are times when we invite submissions on a particular subject (e.g. life in a specific boarding, memories of a teacher who has passed away, the experience of following a certain vocation). If the subject is relevant to you we urge you to write for The Golden Chain.

Articles can be submitted in English or in French. They should typically be 1200 words long (2 pages). Don’t forget to send us a photograph (or more) to go along with your piece.

Letters to the Editors, suggestions and feedback are also welcome. We generally have a quotation from Sri Aurobindo or the Mother on our back-cover. You can also suggest a quote which you would like to share with others.

If you have any specific skills – writing, copy-editing, layout and graphic design — and would like to help, we will be only too glad to take you on board. Help is also required with transcribing taped interviews and dispatching the issues. Contact us at office@goldenchainfraternity.org if you would like to participate.
